Structural Assessment of a Gas Transport Trailer

A global supplier of gas products and equipment requested Wilde to assess the structural performance of a semi-trailer design used in the operation of the transport of gaseous hydrogen.

A comprehensive structural assessment of the trailer assembly under operational conditions was conducted in accordance with British Standard BS EN 13807:2003.

Non-linear finite element analysis was conducted within ANSYS. A representation of the assembly was developed from detailed drawings, with a combination of shell, spring, beam and cable elements used to represent the structural members of the trailer including the chassis and its suspension system.
