Typical applications include assessing the performance of skids & frameworks, hydraulic & electronic cabinets and support systems. This often requires dynamic as well as static structural analysis, which is undertaken by our clients through the supply of ANSYS software and training or via our consulting services.
We have an established reputation solving power transmission problems, including:
- Investigating structural failures
- Design foundation systems
- Modelling machine dynamics
- Predicting bearing loads in flexible couplings due to out-of-alignment forces
As one example, we have supported Bibby Transmissions with their use of ANSYS for over a decade.
We are also highly familiar with techniques for pressure equipment assessment including PD5500 and ASME VIII Div 2.
Furthermore, we can analyse and help optimise the design of hydraulic and pneumatic systems efficiently through our 1D Flownex code.
Full 3D CFD with ANSYS enables the investigation of fluid behaviour in valves, compressors, pumps and other typical industrial equipment components with greater detail. We have significant experience in rotating flows, cavitation issues & pressure-flow characterisation and can couple with structural models to model fluid-structural interaction (FSI).
This includes sealing design and assessment, including prediction of temperatures that may degrade performance.
Our process modelling capabilities are employed when the equipment is being designed to undertake a manufacturing operation or includes high integrity forged or extruded parts. Through kinematic and forming simulations, we can help ensure the mechanical design operates as intended while safety critical components have been produced without defects.
Our complementary Safety and Reliability software & services can also provide assurance that the risk of equipment failure and the severity of its consequences have been minimised, including the design and management of safety alarm systems.
