David Deakin: Managing Director

Qualifications: BSc, CEng , MIMechE. Joined Wilde in 1986

“One of my particular areas of interest is in the Business Benefits of Simulation and helping our clients gain the maximum benefit from its use.”

In his role as Managing Director, David is responsible for developing all aspects of Wilde’s business, including leading and enhancing the management team. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in implementing business systems and processes to provide customer focused sollutions in all aspects of Wilde’s provision.

As a respected engineering practioner, with many years experience, David has worked as an Interim Director for a number of Wilde’s clients. He also serves on a number of industry groups, including the UK Steering Group and the Analysis Management Working Group of NAFEMS. After becoming a Mechanical Engineering graduate and a Chartered Engineer he completed a Technical Apprenticeship and worked on the design and analysis of construction machinery before joining Wilde FEA as a Senior Engineer.

During his time at Wilde, David has been responsible for introducing a number of leading CAE products into the UK and European markets. He has also nurtured Wilde’s “Off-Shoring CAE” services which includes sub-contractors based in India.

John Dennis: Technical Director – FEA

Qualifications: BSc, CEng, FIMechE. Joined Wilde in 1986.

“The FEA method is the most powerful technique available to investigate engineering and physical phenomena. It can provide an unparalleled insight into physical behaviour, enabling robust and efficient solutions to engineering problems.”

The Wilde FEA team is headed by John Dennis who is committed to providing a top quality consulting service with a friendly “work with the client” approach. The emphasis is on applying advanced modelling and analysis techniques to provide “real world” engineering solutions to Wilde clients.

John is the Technical Director of Wilde FEA and is a Chartered Engineer, and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He has 30 years experience in the field of engineering structural design and analysis. Before joining Wilde, John worked in the large diesel, gas turbine, automotive and nuclear industries.

Working across all sectors, John and his team work with companies on projects ranging from a few days to several years. This work may be at an early design stage, or during project development. In addition John and his team perform forensic studies after component failure, design modifications, and third party assessments.

The challenge to solve client engineering problems, and to provide practical solutions, is what motivates John and his team to provide a top quality service.

Dr Simon Leefe: Technical Director – CFD

Qualifications: BA (Oxon), PhD, CEng, MIMechE, AMIChemE. Joined Wilde in 2006.

“It doesn’t matter what the application is: it’s really all about quickly grasping fundamentals and using the resulting insights to help the client solve the problem, improve the process or optimise the product.”

With an Oxford University degree in Engineering Science, practical and professional training with GEC Turbine Generators and a PhD in blood flow though artificial heart valves , Simon clearly demonstrates his passion for applied physics. Simon’s extensive knowledge of fluid mechanics and long background in industrial problem-solving across the applications and disciplines ensures his fluid dynamics team consistently provide a first rate service to our clients.

Simon is an internationally recognised expert in fluid sealing, a very experienced mathematical modeller and both a developer and accomplished user of engineering analysis tools. He has spent the past 25 years in commercial Research and Development and consultancy, specialising in fluid flow and solid mechanics. For the past 16 years he has managed an engineering analysis team applying CFD and other simulation tools to the design process. Simon has also been involved in developing software to simulate rocket engine turbopump shaft seals for the European Space Agency.

Dr Brian Miller: Sales & Marketing Director

Qualifications: BEng, EngD, CEng, FIMechE. Joined Wilde in 1997.

“It is vital for me that my sales and marketing team are genuinely enthusiastic about engineering software and understand the technology in-depth. I believe our clients choose to work with us due to our technical knowledge and consultative approach to their problems as well as providing leading software products and services.”

With over 20 years experience in engineering, Brian heads the Sales & Marketing team at Wilde, responsible for the promotion of all software, training and consulting services and client communications. Following an apprenticeship with the Dowty Group and a first degree in Mechanical Engineering, he started as a Product Development Engineer at Dowty Seals in 1992, involved in the finite element analysis of elastomeric sealing components. Deciding to pursue a career in CAE technology, he returned to academia to undertake an engineering doctorate research programme at UMIST, developing a new large deformation, viscoplastic finite element program for ABB Daimler Benz. Brian is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Brian has focused on business development activities since joining Wilde. Initially dedicated to bulk and sheet metal forming simulation, he conducted a number of consulting projects and training courses for a wide range of automotive, aerospace and defence companies including Jaguar, Land Rover, Rolls-Royce and Qinetiq. Now heading a team covering a diverse range of analysis products and services, Brian still contributes directly to the development of new business, and ensures that he continues long term relationships with existing clients.

Mike McCarthy: Principal Engineer

Qualifications: BSc MSc MSaRS MCMI. Joined Wilde in 2005.

“I believe every engineer and product manager should have a working knowledge of reliability and safety issues and applicable techniques.”

Mike has been working with Wilde since 2005 and has over 20 years experience in the engineering arena following completion of a Physics degree and a master degree in Industrial Engineering. Mike’s career includes electron microscopy (investigating small failures) and Reliability & Service management roles (investigating large failures); the latter gained at two of the world’s largest construction equipment manufacturers.

At Wilde, Mike is involved with understanding why products and systems fail, predicting how many will fail in the hands of customers’ and identifying corrective actions that either fix the problem or mitigate the risk to the client and customer. He is also involved with training engineers and managers in the use of reliability techniques such as Weibull analysis, Reliability Block Diagrams and Fault Tree Analysis.

Mike is a Member of the Safety and Reliability Society and also the Chartered Management Institute.

Shakeel Chaudry: Principal Engineer
