Having provided previously FEA consulting services, Wilde assisted the implementation of ANSYS Workbench technology within Bibby Transmissions through the supply of software, training and technical support. The use of ANSYS in-house has enabled Bibby to quickly validate and optimise their designs directly from their Solid Edge CAD models.
The Bibby Transmissions Group (now Bibby Turboflex) has been a market leader in flexible couplings and engineering solutions for rotating equipment continually for over 80 years. These couplings and other products may be found in steel mills, mining, power stations, water treatment and chemical processing plants, and other arduous conditions where reliable protection against shaft misalignment, high speeds, vibration and shock problems is required.
•Maintain long term customer satisfaction through quality, service and reliability.
•Ensure the selection of the correct type of coupling design for each application.
•Enhance existing design calculation software with the deployment of FEA .
•Incorporate ANSYS Workbench into the design process through direct integration with Solid Edge.
•Increase accuracy of product performance assessment by detailed structural and modal analysis of the 3D assemblies.
•Verify use of software by comparison to test results.
•Ease of use and easy to learn.
•Optimised product performance with greater reliability.
•Increased customer confidence with new cutting edge designs.
•Reduced design time of new products.
•Highlighting of potential strengths and weaknesses leading to innovative products.
“Through Ansys Workbench we have a tool which allows us to increase the performance of our products. Drastic reductions in weights and inertia of the couplings have been achieved without compromising the strength of the unit. Lateral vibration of couplings is now being estimated to a level of confidence previously unattainable without days of computation and cost .”
