Hyperelastic rubber materials are used in many critical components, e.g., seals, gaskets, and bushings across oil and gas, automotive, and aerospace industries. Simulating a hyperelastic material requires extra effort as they undergo a substantial deformation, usually more than 50 % and sometimes exceeding 700% of strain value.
Hyperelastic materials undergo deformations with minor or negligible plastic deformation. These materials are soft in nature, and their stress vs. strain response is nonlinear and monotonically increasing. The components of hyperelastic materials experience large strains. Due to these reasons, we often encounter excessive element distortion error and convergence issues.
Modelling such cases usually involves accounting for geometric, material, and contact nonlinearities. Our challenge is to determine the coefficients of the equation used for stress-strain curve generation and characterize our material correctly.
