As products become more reliable and development times get shorter, testing new designs to failure under normal operating conditions gets more challenging due to time constraints. One option to deal with these scenarios is the use of degradation analysis. Degradation analysis involves the measurement of performance data that can be directly related to the presumed failure of the product such as the wear of brake pads, the propagation of crack size, and the deterioration of battery voltage. However, there are cases where direct measurements of degradation is not be possible without invasive or destructive techniques such as the measurement of corrosion in a chemical container, the strength measurement of an adhesive bond, the capacitor breakdown voltage, and a circuit short due to dendrite growth between two parallel copper conductors.
