Develop Your Career

We recognise that we will only attract the very best staff if we provide opportunities for them to thrive within our organisation. We take staff development very seriously and actively encourage our team to attend training courses and gain as much experience as possible.

Develop both Technical and Commercial Skills

We believe one vital factor to our success is for all our staff to have both technical and commercial skills and knowledge to an appropriate level. This means our technical engineers can communicate effectively and help our clients make engineering decisions in light of business considerations. Likewise, our business development managers can generate appropriate proposals through a genuine understanding of engineering issues.

To develop this variety of skills, we provide our technical engineers with the opportunity to gain experience in our sales and marketing department as a secondment. Similarly, if our commercial staff do not already have a background in engineering analysis or knowledge of the industries in which they will be working, we provide a range of training courses either run by ourselves or external experts.

One of our software partners, Ansys, also run their own recognised technical and commercial courses that our staff are invited to attend. Furthermore, many of our engineers achieve formal accreditation from these partners in specific technical and commercial disciplines, resulting in additional qualifications and certifications that are valuable for years to come.

Regardless of seniority, we are always interested in helping our staff acquire further skills and qualifications in relevant subjects through day release and part time study.

Achieve Chartered Status

We believe that formal accreditation is important to provide a solid framework behind career development. Consequently we work with the engineering institutions to facilitate membership and ultimately achieve Chartered Status.

As a registered company on the Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), we can help you progress quickly to Chartered Status in a structured way, including the appointment of one of our most senior staff or director as a formal mentor. This involves our engineers writing quarterly and annual formal reports on their activities that are submitted to the Institution. These reports, together with other evidence and a personal viva, are used as part of the assessment by the external board when awarding chartered status. Our internal mentors will:

    • Offer on-going advice and support to the engineer.
    • Liaise with the engineer’s line manager to ensure the tasks undertaken within his/her role are consistent with the necessary skills and experience required by the scheme.
    • Help complete and sign-off the quarterly and annual reports.

Adapt Your Career Direction to Satisfy Your Goals

At some point you may like a new challenge or perhaps wish to move your career in a different direction. We always try to help our staff work within our company in the way they feel most comfortable. Occasionally, this can lead to technical staff taking on temporary or permanent commercial roles and vice versa. In other cases, we have arranged for our engineers to go on-site at our clients for extended placements so they can acquire additional skills and experience different working environments.
