Alarm Systems Management is a concise one-day training course aimed at helping prevent accidents similar to the explosion and fires at the Milford Haven refinery in the UK in 1994. This serious incident injured twenty six people, caused damage of the order of €50 million and resulted in the loss of a large amount of production.

The tuition sessions provide simple and practical guidance on how to recognise and deal with typical human-factor problems involving alarm systems. Its scope covers many sectors, including the energy, process, transport and utilities industries.

The tuition is aligned with EEMUA 191, the globally accepted and leading guide to good practice for all aspects of alarm systems, issued by the EEMUA (Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association)

Control Room Design - Aligned with EEMUA 201

Control Room Design can have a big influence on the ability of the Control Room Operators to perform their role effectively. In particular:

  • A good quality HMI can ensure they have the data they need in a useful format;
  • The working environment can affect health and alertness;
  • Physical design and provision of equipment can support effective communication.

Control room design is a one day course that will introduce the up to date guidance on control room design. It is aimed at people engaged in reviewing existing control rooms or designing new or modified control rooms.

The tuition is aligned with the 3rd Edition of EEMUA 201 published in 2019, a leading guide to good practice for all aspects of control room design issued by the EEMUA (Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association). Wilde was instrumental in developing this latest edition of the guidance along with active involvement of the EEMUA membership, experienced control room operators, ergonomists, designers and the HSE.

FMEA Process - Fundamentals

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is bottom up, inductive failure analysis that considers the effect that failure of lower level components and assemblies will have on the overall system. This technique is used across engineering to understand how systems can fail, the causes of failure and to identify the best ways to reduce risk.

This 1 day course covers the fundamental FMEA process, with the following aims:

  • Familiarise delegates with the terminology used with FMEA
  • Explain the purpose and approaches of FMEA in Reliability Engineering
  • Introduce the core components of FMEA
  • Discuss how risks can be prioritised
  • Discuss the activities that should follow the analysis process

Fault Tree Analysis - Fundamentals

Fault Tree Analysis is a top down, deductive failure analysis that identifies combinations of events that would lead to an undesired system event. This technique is mainly used in safety and reliability engineering to understand how systems can fail, to identify the best ways to reduce risk and quantify the probability of undesired events.

This 1-day course covers the fundamentals of Fault Tree Analysis with the following aims:

  • Familiarise delegates with Fault Tree Analysis principles (terminology, process, symbols).
  • To equip delegates with the skills to construct a basic fault tree.
  • To enable delegates to evaluate basic fault trees numerically.

Software Assurance - Introduction

This course provides a simple and practical view and appreciation for the assurance of software and programmable elements. The scope covers the decomposition of software requirements and the traceability to demonstration of compliance.

The tuition is aligned with a traditional industry ‘V’ model development cycle, but also considers the assurance of Agile methods. Industry good practice standards are discussed including IEC61508, RTCA DO178C / DO254 and the UK MoD standard 00:055.
