Local authorities are increasingly requesting wind microclimate reports in support of applications for new developments involving tall buildings. An Environmental Impact Assessment based around wind tunnel tests or computer simulations (CFD) is often too late in the process to allow significant changes to be implemented. However, a detailed wind study at the start of RIBA stage 2, when alternative massing options are still being considered, is often deemed irrelevant, premature and the evaluation of many design variants too expensive.
The solution – a desktop wind study. This would highlight any major issues of early design options, allowing more thorough evaluation at later stages. A desktop wind study accounts for seasonal variation in wind conditions takes into account surrounding townscapes and predicts resulting wind flow.
Wouldn’t it be useful if alternatives could be evaluated live?
Thanks to ANSYS Discovery Live‘s game-changing technology, this is now a reality. This real-time simulation software makes it possible to bring early-stage wind studies in-house, enhance the desktop wind study and invoke a conversation amongst stakeholders based around live evaluations of alternatives and exploration of “what-ifs”.
During this webinar we explore how ANSYS Discovery Live can improve early-stage and desktop wind studies.
