Reliability Engineering Consulting Services

Wilde provides an in-depth consulting service in reliability and quality engineering to a wide range of clients across most industrial sectors, including defence, aerospace, automotive, energy, utilities and construction equipment. All projects are managed to the ISO9001 quality standard. Our consulting services are often supplied in conjunction with ReliaSoft software to assist your in-house implementation of reliability engineering techniques.

Overview

We believe that performance and time to market is significantly improved by integrating reliability into product and process development from its earliest design stages, whether safety-critical industrial equipment or consumer items. Our Design for Reliability projects are often run in conjunction with our in-house FEA and CFD teams, using the latest up-front engineering analysis techniques.

We take time to understand your business, delivering solutions to meet your specific requirements within budget. The leading reliability engineering software developed by ReliaSoft is used when it offers benefits, although we are also happy to utilise your existing reliability tools or spreadsheets to complete your analyses.

You can use our consulting services for Technology Transfer. This enables your own engineers to learn about reliability and quality engineering and the effective use of software first hand on live problems. Alternatively, you may prefer to use our technical team as an extension to your in-house engineering resources and allow us take responsibility for your reliability challenges.

Our reliability team is headed by Mike McCarthy, with over 20 years experience in quality and reliability engineering and getting to the root of clients’ issues. We also have access to some of the world’s leading reliability specialists from our partnership with ReliaSoft and our association with academic and industrial practitioners.

“I believe every engineer and product manager should have a working knowledge of reliability and safety issues and applicable techniques.” Mike McCarthy, Principal Engineer

How Can You Start?
Simply contact us by email or phone for an informal discussion of your requirements with no-obligation. From an initial phone call we can often give you an idea of price and time scales. With further details, we can send you a scope of work and a formal quotation.

Starting a New Reliability Programme

Most companies already practise some form of reliability engineering, whether formally or informally. However, implementing a structured reliability programme or department can significantly improve the profitability of your business. This may help you optimise a maintenance policy, reduce returns or warranty costs, enhance QA procedures or implement a system to comply with the latest standards.

Where Do You Start?

The first step in implementing these changes is often the most challenging. Wilde has helped many businesses set up new reliability programmes from scratch. In addition, we have provided support to companies to adapt their current processes to incorporate new standards, such as APR RP 17N within the subsea industry, and also improve the efficiency of ‘burn in’ activities within electronic componentry and systems.

Auditing an Existing Reliability Programme

Wilde offers an auditing service to check that your existing programme is consistent with your reliability goals. If your current processes are not optimal, we then propose an action plan to bring your reliability programme to the desired level.

This service is primarily delivered through a GAP analysis, with recommendations on which actions will provide the best value and move you closer to the desired level most efficiently. Pareto’s Law states that 20% of the actions will cause 80% of the results – we help identify which 20% to start with.

Pricing & Deliverables

After agreeing a scope of work and timescales with yourselves, we can structure the pricing of a project in many ways:

  • Fixed Price, against fixed quotation.
  • Reimbursable.
  • Reimbursable, against target price.
  • Call-off contracts
  • Staff secondments at an hourly rate

Clear and meaningful communication of results is an essential way we add value to your operations. Various levels of reporting are available:

  • Extensive – often required for regulatory authorities, such as NII.
  • Standard – Full report, but without the detail of the Extensive report
  • Summary – Limited to basic facts, often presented as a Powerpoint presentation.

If your company also uses reliability software, we can also deliver the results databases to enable you to recreate the analysis and investigate the results in-house.

Project meetings are important and encouraged, particularly for complex or design optimisation projects, and can be held at our offices or yours. We also make increasing use of virtual meetings when appropriate via web conferencing services.
